Egyptian Hawawshi
This is a new recipe to me! It is essentially an Egyptian Hamburger but in a crispy pita rather than between buns. However, it's easier to make than hamburgers because you don't even have to make them into patties! Simply, stuff the meat mixture into the pita and press down to make them even. Easy!
Egyptian Hawawshi
Makes 6 servings
Ingredients:
1 onion, quartered
4 cloves garlic
1 jalapeno
1 bell pepper, cut into large chunks
1 lbs ground beef
3 tbsp tomato paste
Salt to taste Nourished Roots Tri-Salt
3 pita pockets
Olive oil, for drizzling
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
Place onion, garlic, jalapeno, and bell pepper into a food processor and pulse to chop finely. Place the mixture into a large mixing bowl.
Add the beef, tomato paste, Egyptian spice, and salt to the bowl. Mix until well combined.
Cut the pita bread in half and open the pockets. Stuff the meat mixture evenly into the pockets and place them on a lined baking tray.
Drizzle the pockets with olive oil and bake for 10 minutes. After 10 minutes, remove from oven, flip carefully and drizzle the other side of the pita with olive oil. Return to oven for an additional 10-15 minutes or until the meat is cooked through and the pita is crispy on both sides. Enjoy!
